Andrographis, Andrographis paniculata
Parts used: Herb.
Constituents: Bitter diterpenoid lactones; andrographolides, diterpene glucosides, diterpene dimers, flavonoids including TFAP.
Actions: Bitter tonic, Immunostimulant, Hepatoprotective, Choleretic, Antipyretic, Anti-inflammatory, Abortifacient.
Indications:
Acute and chronic infections, weakened immunity, worm infestation.
Toxic liver damage, liver infections, poor liver function.
Traditionally was considered to be superior to quinine in malaria.
May have value in cardiovascular disease.
Herbal extract: 20-40mL per week.
Contraindications: Pregnancy, high doses may cause gastric discomfort, anorexia and emesis.
