Burdock, Arctium lappa
Parts used: Root, leaves and seeds.
Constituents: Flavonoid glycosides, Antibiotic constituents, Bitters, Alkaloids, Essential oil.
Vitamins: A, B2, niacin, C, E, P.
Minerals: iron, calcium, copper, iodine, sulphur, zinc.
Actions: Depurative or Alterative, mild Diuretic, Antibiotic and Hypoglycaemic (seeds).
Indications:
Rheumatism, Gout, Cystitis, Arthritis, Anorexia nervosa, Eczema, Acne, Boils, Psoriasis Opens up the channels for elimination, and cleanses the blood.
Prevents depletion of glycogen.
BHP Specific: Eczema, especially in dry and desquamatory phase And Psoriasis.
Herbal extract: 15-40mL per week.
Energetics: pungent, bitter, cooling. Dosha: PK- V+.
Meridians: kidney, bladder, liver, gallbladder, lung.
Caution: The action of Arctium can cause a reaction if the process of detoxifying the tissues occurs more quickly than the body is able to excrete these waste metabolites or toxins. The herb itself has no toxicity and is safely eaten as a vegetable.
