Dandelion, Taraxacum officinale
Parts used: Herb, root if plant is older than 2 years.
Constituents: Sesquiterpene lactones, Bitters, Triterpenes, Inulin, Tannins.
Vitamins: A, B, C, D, E.
Minerals: Potassium, calcium, sodium.
Actions: Hepatic Tonic, Choleretic, Laxative, Diuretic (leaf), Anti-rheumatic, Antilithic.
Indications:
Cirrhosis, gall stones, hepatitis, jaundice, toxic exposure, cholecystitis, increases bile flow up to 50 %, lowers cholesterol.
Hypertension, anorexia, constipation, indigestion, atonic dyspepsia.
Root is very high in potassium compensates loss from diarrhoea.
Arthritis, rheumatism.
Eye inflammation.
Herbal extract: leaf 20-80mL per week, root 20-40mL per week.
Energetics: Salty, cooling, sweet, bitter. Dosha: PK- V+.
Meridians: liver, gallbladder, spleen, bladder.
Caution: The white juice can make children nauseous.
