Elecampane, Inula helenium
Parts used: Roots and rhizomes.
Constituents: Essential oil, Sesquiterpene lactones Mucilage, Bitters, Triterpene saponins, Inulin, Minerals: Calcium, potassium, sodium.
Actions: Expectorant, Antitussive, Diaphoretic, Antibacterial, Anthelmintic, Digestive tonic, weak Anti-inflammatory, Immunostimulant, Antispasmodic, Rejuvenative, Anodyne, restorative to endocrine system (slow acting herb).
Indications:
Bronchial and tracheal catarrh, chronic and irritating Coughs, Bronchitis, Pulmonary tuberculosis, wet congested Asthma, Colic, Nausea, Diarrhoea, Anorexia, Dyspepsia.
BHP specific, for Bronchitis and Tuberculosis.
And anorexia, malabsorption, anaemia, Hypotension, ME, autoimmune disorders, supportive to diabetes, indigestion, liver congestion, parasites, Qi.
PMS with swollen breasts, dry skin, low self-esteem, oestrogen and progesterone. Retained placenta.
Acute pain from sciatica, gout, arthritis, paralysis, nerve injury, chronic ulcers.
Herbal extract: 20-40mL per week.
Energetics: Bitter, pungent, warm. Dosha: VK- P+.
Meridians: lung, spleen, liver, triple burner.
