Hops, Humulus lupulus
Parts used: Female flower.
Constituents: Bitters, Volatile oil, Flavonoids, B-complex, Magnesium, zinc, copper.
Actions: Sedative, Hypnotic, Soporific, Spasmolytic, Diuretic, Bitter tonic, Antibacterial (topically).
Indications:
Palpitations of neurogenic origins, nervous and irritable coughs, irritable bowel syndrome, anorexia, mucous colitis, nervous dyspepsia, insomnia, neuralgia, Sleep disorders i.e. nervous sleep disorders, excitability, hyperactivity, dysmenorrhoea, Anaphrodisiac in men, wet dreams, chronic insomnia.
BHP specific, restlessness associated with nervous tension headache and/or indigestion.
Herbal extract: 10-20mL per week.
Energetics: Bitter, pungent, astringent, cooling. Dosha: PK- V+.
Meridians: heart, pericardium, kidney, liver.
Caution: Should not be used in people with depression.
