Lesser Periwinkle, Vinca minor
Parts used: Leaves and root.
Constituents: Leaves; Vincine, vincoside, saponin, carotene and tannin.
Root; vincamine, vincamirine and isovincamine.
Actions: Leaves; Stomachic, Detergent Root; Hypotensive, Anti-spasmodic, Sedative, Hypoglycaemic, Anti-cancerous, Vasodilator, Mucous membrane Tonic, The crushed leaves, when applied to surface wounds, have astringent and healing properties.
Indications:
Wounds, Muscle cramps, High blood pressure, Stomach pains, Cancer, Diarrhoea, Diabetes, Nose bleeding, Blood in urine, abnormal Menstrual bleeding.
Herbal extract: 25-50mL per week.
Energetics: Leaves; Bitter.
