Melilot, Melilotus officinalis
Parts used: Herb.
Constituents: Coumarins, Flavonoids, and Tannins.
Actions: Venous Tonic, Lymphatic tonic, Anti-coagulant, Blood thinning, Anti-inflammatory, Anti-oedematous, Immune stimulant.
Indications:
Oedema; Post traumatic oedema, hemorrhoids, tension headache.
Varicose veins, Haemorrhoids.
Congestive heart disease, Thrombophlebitis, hypertension, insomnia.
Thrombosis.
Topically for burns.
Lymphatic oedema, breaks down protein.
Inhibits spreading of cancer, glandular fever.
For insomnia in children and the elderly.
Herbal extract: 30-60mL per week.
Energetics: Cool and dry, bitter, sweet.
Meridians: liver, heart, lung, large intestine.
Contraindications: Emetic in large doses. Individuals taking anti-coagulant drugs e.g. Warfarin, Aspirin etc Impaired liver function.
