Ribwort, Plantago lanceolata
Parts used: Leaves.
Constituents: Iridoid glycosides, Mucilage, Tannins, Vitamins: A, C.
Minerals: potassium, silicon, zinc, iron, sodium and calcium.
Actions: Anti-catarrhal, Anti-septic, Demulcent, Astringent, Anti-haemorrhagic, Anti-inflammatory.
Indications:
Coughs of all sorts, asthma, hoarseness, haemoptysis, sinusitis, hay fever, bronchitis, nasal catarrh, allergies, whooping cough, otitis media, rhinitis, nasal catarrh.
Peptic ulcers, colitis, diarrhoea.
Cystitis, prostatitis, haematuria, leucorrhoea, uraemia.
Haemorrhoids, calculus.
Topically: Wounds, blepharitis, conjunctivitis, mouth inflammation, mouth ulcers also with cough apply dried herb/olive oil infusion.
Herbal extract: 20-40mL per week.
Energetics: Cooling, astringent, salty, bitter.
Contraindications: None.
