Rue, Ruta graveolens

Constituents: Volatile oil, Flavonoids; quercitin, rutin, Furanocoumarins, Alkaloids, Tannins.
Actions: Emmenagogue, Decongesting, Antitussive, Sedative, Diuretic, Spasmolytic, Alternative.
Indications:
Amenorrhoea, dysmenorrhoea, suppressed menses, cold extremities, tension headache, helps venous congestion esp. anger/frustration.
Spasmodic coughs, dry, irritating coughs, bronchitis.
Griping, bowel tension, flatulence, Seizures, epileptic, multiple sclerosis.
Tension, spasm, nervous over-activity, hypertension.
Rutin increases oedema because it strengthens capillaries.
Bloodshot eyes, perhaps due to anger.
Topically; eczema, psoriasis, vitiligo, ulcers. Can sting, test first.
Herbal extract 1:5, 15-30mL per week.
Energetics: pungent, bitter, dry, Warm.
Meridians: lung, small intestine, liver.
Contraindications: Pregnancy Herb is medium toxic use 1 week on and 2 weeks off.
