Willow, Salix alba
Parts used: Bark.
Constituents: Phenolic glycosides, Flavonoids, Tannins, Salicylate.
Actions: Anti-inflammatory, Analgesic, Antipyretic, Anti-rheumatic, Astringent, Tonic general.
Indications:
Influenza, common cold, fevers, respiratory catarrh, Pains of varying origin, mild headache, resentment, selfishness, for optimism.
Rheumatism, muscular and arthritic, arthritis, gout, Ankylosing spondylitis, systemic connective tissue disorders marked by inflammation (SLE).
Ovarian pain (black cohosh specific), endometriosis, leucorrhoea, vaginitis, wet dreams and premature ejaculation.
Herbal extract: 25-50mL per week, can use tablets.
Energetics: Drying/cooling, astringent, Bitter.
Meridians: stomach, bladder, kidney, heart.
Contraindications: None - salicic acid does not affect platelet function as it does in aspirin and warfarin. Contains Salicylate 300µg per mL.
